Rugs by La Manufacture Cogolin, France

In 1928 visionary textile engineer Jean Lauer purchased the workshop that would become La Manufacture Cogolin. To the Manufacture’s production of hand-knotted rugs, Lauer added 19th Century Jacquard hand-weaving looms, which are still in use today. Each Cogolin rug was knotted or woven by local craftswomen whose skill, combined with Lauer’s groundbreaking innovations, helped propel the brand to international renown by the 1930s. Lauer’s expertise quickly made him a widely sought-after collaborator with many of Europe’s finest designers, such as Jules Leleu, Christian Bérard, Jean-Michel Frank, Sir David Hicks and even the artist Jean Cocteau.

The heir of an enduring cultural legacy, La Manufacture Cogolin and its talented artisans draw on the heritage of the past and innovations of the present. Its floral and geometric high-relief patterns and colourful palette remain as recognisable as ever, decorating palaces, embassies, luxurious residences and yachts around the world.

Today, in addition to producing rugs with patterns from their impressive archive, they collaborate with contemporary designers such as Charles Zana, India Mahdavi, Stéphane Parmentier and Elliot Barnes to continue La Manufacture Cogolin's tradition of producing rugs of distinction.
