Steve Howlett

Sé is proud to exclusively present bronze transformations of Steve Howlett's organic, abstract sculptures. Shown in Toronto, London and Paris galleries, his refined wood forms have been featured in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London; the Derek Williams Collection at the National Museum & Gallery of Wales, Cardiff, UK and The Hosomi Museum and Art Foundation, Kyoto, Japan.

"I try to marry the predictable, natural movement of the wood as it shrinks with slowly developing, highly refined forms and the results these days tend to be almost figurative at times, very organic and sensual."

The beauty of nature is captured and remade in these mesmerising works which we invite you to view in the Sé Gallery.

Alicja Podgórska Birkner

Born and raised in Poland, Alicja Podgórska Birkner, has dedicated herself to sculpting and ceramics since 1988. For the past 32 years she has been based in Germany,  living and creating in a small town in the Alps not far from Munich. The sensual, organic forms of her sculptures have been recognised all over the world, from Korea, to New York, Los Angeles and Paris. We are delighted to bring her work to the Sé gallery in London having been captivated by the traits of timelessness, serenity and harmony that permeate her work.

Claudia Frignani

Born in Massa Carrara in Italy, between the white marble quarries and the sea, Claudia Frignani moved to Milan, where she attended the school of Art and Architecture University. After exploring her creativity through a variety of materials as a furniture designer (castings, metals, concrete, wood, leather, textiles), pottery became the passion in constant evolution. Starting from a raw clay block, Claudia creates exclusively by hand, unique vases.
Starting from a poor material, she arrives to a precious manufact, with extraordinary finishes. Her inspiration comes from a curious and astonished observation of the natural world, that has fascinated her since childhood. Lines, colors, shapes, textures, stolen from nature and processed through her personal and unique search of beauty . From a raw clay block, through the ancient technique of “colombino” she create the bare shape of the vase, then enriched with scales, leaves, ribs, creating a three-dimensional textures. Once finished, the artifact is left to dry slowly, for about ten days. Then it is brought into “furnace” where at a temperature of more than 1000 degrees is carried out the first firing. Now the clay that has turned red, after being enamelled, is fired for the second and last time.

The artist says "The vase is a pretext; the idea of modifying an iconic object for everyday use, of transforming it, making it attractive, charging it with meaning, using it as a surface on which to construct my three-dimensional textures, is stimulating. I have always been attracted by concave forms, things that contain, conceal and protect."

These are captivating works of tactile form and texture and craft and Sé is delighted to present three of Claudia's pieces;  "Paper Clay", "Lefka White" and "Lefka Blue",  in the Sé gallery.
